From LP's to MV's

Before photography, web design, and even video; my heart, my soul, revolved around audio.

I was eight years old when I played my first instrument (an upright organ my mother had in her living room); however, since I couldn't read music at the time (still can't) I had to play by ear.

Since then I've taught myself to play bass, rhythm guitar, and analog synth; all in support of my main instrument, my voice.

As a singer first and foremost, I wanted nothing more than to write my own music.  So instead of waiting to find equally motivated musicians, I became one of my own, ultimately penning nearly fifty songs.

Still, I needed a way to properly capture my performance (as a simple four track from Tascam wasn't doing the trick).

Prior to discovering Universal Audio, there was the birth of the internet.  I know, I know. I'm dating myself.  But that's alright. I'm proud of what I've accomplished in my fifty years.

Either way, I needed a way to properly represent myself on this new medium so of course I turned my attention toward the highly coveted music video

Using a standard Best Buy consumer model Sony SD camcorder, I filmed, edited, and created some rudimentary visual effects with Final Cut Pro.

Moving to ADAT, I recorded my first demo. At first I was on top of the world, but as I continued to evolve, I wanted better quality.

Since then I've invested heavily in Universal Audio hardware and software; astounded by the astounding quality it delivers,

Producing true analog tone from a digital source, Universal Audio has really made a difference in my deliverables; solving many issues inherent in the typical project studio.

Flat sounding vocals, guitars with no body, and bass lines that whimper instead of thunder were always a problem.  But those days are no more. Today, I'm able to produce multimillion dollar sound with a budget you can afford.

Not so much a music video then an experiment with Red Giant'a Trapcode line of plug ins.

Featuring robust particle effects from Particular and Form

Composited in Adobe After Effects.

Edited in Adobe Premiere Pro.

Filmed with Canon's XHA1S in my south Florida project studio, Dim is a performance piece designed to give you, the viewer, an intimate, local coffeehouse feel.

Recorded with Logic X and a massive library of plug-ins by Universal Audio, I am proud of the results of this final product.

Dim

One of three film school projects, Celebrity represents three months worth of work, starting with the writing and recording of the music; writing the script; creating storyboards; auditioning talent; and assembling the crew.

It was a lot of work, but it was an experience that set the path for my future as a cinematographer and filmmaker.

The second of my trilogy of class projects, Don't Close Your Eyes is inspired by actual events.

At the time that I wrote it, a Chicago cop had beat and murdered his wife. Sadly, the neighborhood knew what was going on and did nothing.

Someone could have said something, maybe saving this young woman, but they didn't.

Music Videos

Before I discovered Universal Audio, there was the birth of the internet.  I know, I know.  I'm dating myself.  But that's alright. I'm proud of what I've accomplished in my fifty years.

Either way, I needed a way to properly represent myself on this new medium so I turned my attention toward the highly coveted music video

Using a standard Best Buy consumer model Sony SD camcorder, I filmed, edited, and created some rudimentary visual effects with Final Cut Pro.

The results were promising, which led me down the path of filmmaking as a profession.

Today, I'm looking to rekindle my love affair with music; producing high quality music videos for local bands.

While automotive advertising pays the bills, the idea that I'm helping out the local music scene is what drives me

So join the evolution.  Let Palm Way Studios be a small part of your success.

Equipment: Logic Pro X, Neumann TLM103, Townsend Labs L22, Mogami Cables, Universal Audio Apollo 8p, Universal Audio Apollo Twin, myriad Universal Audio Plugins, and Yamaha HS5 near field monitors.
